The Secrets of The Woods.
An Archaeology and Photography Wellbeing project.
What was left behind when the village was demolished? Did your Grandma's best china survive the move or was it thrown out with the rubbish after being broken? Does the roller skate have a mate? Who's sink is it?
These are just some of the questions we are looking to answer in our Secrets of the Woods project.
Where are we going to be?
We are looking at what was, a thriving mining community in Waterhouses, County Durham.
We are almost ready to go!
We have gained permission from the county archaeologist to begin some test pits, to see if the secrets held by the woods are indeed worthy of a reveal.
Once we know whether the village has secrets to tell us, we are planning to expand the project which will have something for the whole community, whatever thier ability.
Here is a little more about what we are doing.
and some images to whet your appitite from the former village as it looks today. A
